Looking back on 2008 and resolutions for 2009

looking back on the past year, i started to do some reflections and thought back on the events and incidents that made it special, made it different from other years… during the year (2008), there were times when i felt down, mood-wise and feelings-wise, but still got through those times… there were also happy times, such as the celebrations, chilling-out sessions with close frenz etc…

come to think of it, it seems so recently that i last did a reflections/resolutions for the new year… i still remember what i wrote for 2008… anyway, its a new list of stuff for 2009 (well almost most of it)…

lets look at the reflections or highlights  first:

1. Had my first UOL exams at the start of the year… didnt fare well at all… thus i had to retake modules in my current year… kinda disappointed as i didnt expect it to be that bad, but i gotta make full use of the chance that im given again and not brood over it… yea… i will fare much better the next time round !

2. Got into a relationship as well which didnt last very long due to differences in character… i agree that we shouldnt rush into things… take time to fully understand what you really want first before deciding whether or not to go into a relationship… there’s no need to rush into things…

3. Had 2 big outings with my C7 frenz… a bbq in June as well as a chalet in December… was memorable and fun… made many new frenz along the way some of whom are pretty close to me now…

4. 2weeks holidays to Utah (USA) in June and a 4day trip to Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam) during Christmas… looking forward to my Paris and Europe trip somewhere during the first half of the year…

something which i am pretty thankful for are for my family and frenz who have always been around for me during the past year, whether i am feeling down or not… i enjoyed the times we hang out together and stuff…

for my 2009 new year resolutions:

1. studies!!! i need to work really hard and concentrate on my studies so i dont let history repeat itself during the exams again… this time things will be much better…

2. stop procastinating !!! yea… especially on the important stuff…

3. past my IPPT (which unfortunately is due before my bdae in Feb and which i have not started to train for it)…

4. pick up a new language (just for the heck of it) =pPp

can’t think of anymore atm… but will update along the way should i think of something else…

Mekong Delta, My Tho

Vietnam’s ‘rice basket’, the Mekong Delta is a watery landscape of green fields and sleepy villages, everywhere crisscrossed by the brown canals and rivulets fed by the mighty Mekong River. Its inhabitants – sterotyped as friendly and easygoing – have long toild on the life-sustaining river, with their labours marked by the same cycles governing the waterways.
The delta, which yields enoughh rice to feed the country with a sizable surplus, was formed by sediment deposited by the Mekong. The process continues today, with silt deposits extending the shoreline by as much as 80m per year. The river is so large that it has 2 daily tides. Lush with rice paddies and fish farms, this delta plain also nourishes the cultivation of sugarcane, fruit, coconut and shrimp. Although the area is primarily rural, it is one of the most densely populated regions in Vietnam and nearly every hectare is intensively farmed.

War Remmants Museum

Once known as the Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes, it is now the most popular museum in Ho Chi Minh City with Western tourists. US armored vehicles, artillery pieces, bombs and infantry weapons are on display outside. There is a model of the notorious tiger cages used by the South Vietnamese military to house Viet Cong prisoners on Con Son Island and a guillotine used by the French on Viet Minh ‘troublemakers’.

Cu Chi Tunnels

The town of Cu Chi is a district of greater Ho Chi Minh City and has a population of about 200,000. At first glance there is little evudence here to indicate the intense fighting, bombing and destruction that occurred in Cu Chi during the war. To see what went on, you have to dig deeper – underground. The tunnel network of Cu Chi became legendary during the 1960s for its role in facilitating Viet Cong control of a large rural area only 30km to 40km from Ho Chi Minh City. At its height, the the tunnel system stretched from the South Vietnamese capital to the Cambodian border; in the district of Cu Chi alone, there were more than 250km of tunnels. The network, parts of which was several storys deep, included innumerable trap doors, constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centres and kitchens. The tunnels made posible communication and coordination between VC-controlled enclaces, isolated from each other by South Vietnamese and American land and air operations. They also allowed the VC to mount surprise attacks wherever the tunnels went and to disappear suddenly into hidden trapdoors without a trace.
